Indications for Sinus Plastic Surgery

The Sinus Surgery Procedure
Pre-Surgical Assessment: Includes a detailed medical history, physical examination, and imaging studies such as CT scans to evaluate the sinuses.
Anesthesia: The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia.
Endoscopic Procedure: Surgeons use a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera attached (endoscope) to view and access the sinuses.
Removal of Blockages: Clearing away tissue or polyps that are blocking the sinus passages.
Drainage Improvement: Expanding the drainage pathways of the sinuses to improve sinus drainage.
Septoplasty: Straightening a deviated septum if necessary.
Minimally Invasive: The procedure is generally minimally invasive, with no external cuts or scars. Instruments are inserted through the nostrils.
Recovery and Healing
Postoperative Care: May include nasal packing to control bleeding, pain management, antibiotics, and steroids.
Recovery Time: Patients can usually return to normal activities within a few days, but full healing can take several weeks.
Follow-up Appointments: Necessary to monitor healing and ensure the sinuses remain clear.
Risks and Considerations
Bleeding, Infection, or Swelling: Common risks associated with any surgery.
Temporary or, rarely, permanent.
Recurrence of Sinus Problems: Especially in cases of severe chronic sinusitis or nasal polyps.
Sinus plastic surgery is considered when conservative treatments like medication and nasal sprays are not effective. It can significantly improve quality of life for patients suffering from chronic sinus issues.
