Caries

commonly known as tooth decay or cavities, require effective treatment to prevent further damage to teeth and maintain oral health. Dental services for caries treatment typically include the following:

Dental Fillings: The most common treatment for cavities. The dentist removes the decayed tooth material, cleans the affected area, and then fills the cavity with a filling material such as composite resin, amalgam, gold, or porcelain.

Fluoride Treatments: In the early stages of a cavity, a professional fluoride treatment can help restore the tooth’s enamel and can sometimes reverse a cavity in the very early stages.

Dental Crowns: For a tooth that is extensively decayed or weakened, a crown may be necessary. A crown is a custom-fitted covering that replaces the tooth’s entire natural crown.

When decay reaches the tooth’s pulp (the inner material containing nerves and blood vessels), a root canal treatment is necessary. This procedure involves removing the damaged pulp, cleaning the inside of the tooth, and then sealing it to prevent further infection.

Tooth Extractions: In cases where the tooth is too severely damaged to be saved, extraction may be necessary. Afterward, options for replacing the tooth, such as a bridge or implant, may be discussed.

Inlays and Onlays: These are used when the tooth damage is too significant for a standard filling but not severe enough to require a crown. They are custom-made and usually made from porcelain, composite resin, or gold.

While typically used as a preventive measure, sealants can also be applied to very small areas of early decay to prevent further damage.

Diet and Oral Hygiene Counseling: Advice on diet and oral hygiene practices that can help prevent further decay.

Each treatment option depends on the severity of the decay and the overall health of the affected tooth. Regular dental check-ups are essential for early detection and treatment of caries to prevent more serious dental problems.
